  • Poll: Majority of Minnesotans Want Tobacco Tax Increase

    Findings from an April 2013 poll show a strong majority of Minnesotans – 66 percent – support increasing the tobacco tax by $1.50 per pack. The poll found no partisan divide, with strong majorities of DFLers (68 percent), Republicans (65 percent) and Independents (62 percent) all supporting a $1.50 increase.

    Forty-nine colleges and universities in Minnesota are tobacco-free, representing a growing national trend. Ninety-nine percent of smokers start using tobacco before turning 26, and tobacco-free campus policies are a great prevention tool.

  • Research: Tobacco Price Increase = Less Smoking in Minnesota

    Research shows the price of tobacco is the best driver of smoking declines in Minnesota. A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that smoking has fallen 29 percent in Minnesota since 1993. Price increases accounted for 43 percent of that drop.
