5/7/08: ClearWay MinnesotaSM observes 10th anniversary of Minnesota tobacco settlement

 

May 8, 2008, marks the 10-year anniversary of Minnesota's historic settlement with the tobacco industry. The state had sued the industry for deceptive practices in marketing tobacco products, and the trial brought to light millions of pages of documents exposing Big Tobacco's strategies and tactics.

 

A portion of the settlement was used to create ClearWay Minnesota, an independent nonprofit organization specifically chartered to reduce tobacco's harm in Minnesota.

4/23/08: Governor Pawlenty appoints new members to ClearWay MinnesotaSM Board

Additional Board applications sought

 

Last week, Governor Tim Pawlenty appointed two new members to the ClearWay Minnesota Board of Directors.

  • Chris Georgacas is president and CEO of public relations firm Goff & Howard and a former vice chair of the Metropolitan Council.
  • Mark Mishek is the president of United Hospital, a vice president of Allina Hospitals and Clinics and a Board Member of the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce.

4/18/08: New QUITPLAN® Center opens in St. Paul

 

Starting April 10, a new QUITPLAN Center began serving the St. Paul area. Operating through the University of Minnesota, the new QUITPLAN Center is located at Phalen Village Clinic in St. Paul.
