The Raise it for Health coalition has released findings from a poll showing that a strong majority of Minnesotans – 66 percent – support increasing the tobacco tax by $1.50 per pack. A solid majority from virtually every demographic group in the state – including gender, age, income level and geography – supports raising the tax by $1.50. In addition, the poll found no partisan divide with strong majorities of DFLers (68 percent), Republicans (65 percent) and Independents (62 percent) all supporting a $1.50 increase.
Raise it for Health is a coalition of Minnesota’s leading health and nonprofit organizations. Members include ClearWay Minnesota, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association in Minnesota, the Association for Nonsmokers – MN, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic and many others.
